There’s just something about the tournament that’s different—full days of games, crazy finishes, and teams making runs that nobody expected.</div>
<h2>A Sixth-Grade March Madness Memory</h2>
<div>One of my earliest March Madness memories goes back to when I was in 6th grade at Saint Genevieve School in Flourtown, PA. That year, Saint Joseph’s had an undefeated team and the whole Philadelphia area was following them. Even the sisters at school got into it. During lunch, they rolled televisions into the cafeteria so we could watch the games. For a bunch of kids who loved basketball, it felt like the biggest thing in the world.</div>
<h2><img decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-1383 alignleft" src="https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Beyond_350x350_02-300x300.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="300" srcset="https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Beyond_350x350_02-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Beyond_350x350_02-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Beyond_350x350_02.jpg 350w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" />The Kris Jenkins Buzzer-Beater</h2>
<div>Another memory that stands out is from 2016. I was watching the national championship game with two close childhood friends. <a href="https://www.villanova.edu/university.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Villanova</a> and North Carolina were going back and forth all night. When North Carolina hit a three-pointer to tie it with just a few seconds left, we figured the game was headed to overtime.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Then Villanova inbounded the ball, pushed it up the court, and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kris_Jenkins_(basketball)" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kris Jenkins</a> pulled up from three. When that shot went in at the buzzer, the room exploded. We were yelling, jumping around, and just laughing because we couldn’t believe what we had just watched. It’s one of those moments where you remember exactly where you were and who you were with.</div>
<h2><img decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-1384 alignleft" src="https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Beyond_350x350_03-300x300.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="300" srcset="https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Beyond_350x350_03-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Beyond_350x350_03-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Beyond_350x350_03.jpg 350w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" />Why March Madness Stays With Us</h2>
<div>That’s the thing about March Madness. It’s always better when a Philadelphia team is making a run, but the tournament is great no matter what. Every year, there are moments like that—shots, upsets, and games you end up talking about for years. For a few weeks every March, basketball just takes over. And honestly, that’s part of what makes it so much fun.</div>
<div></div>

Me? My ankles retired from basketball years ago, and, recently, my back has politely requested I avoid anything that involves running or heavy lifting for the time being&#8230;</p>
<h2>That leaves me with golf—the one sport where the only real danger seems to be sunburn.</h2>
<p>This season, I’ve been lucky to spend much more time on the course with my nephews and a few good friends, who are all much too patient with my unique definition of “par.” And I’ve taken lessons at BQ Golf Academy in <a href="https://www.conshohockenpa.gov/living-visiting/about-conshohocken/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Conshohocken</a>, where I’m learning that there’s a lot more to the game than just grip it and rip it. Turns out there’s actual technique, balance, and rhythm involved—who knew?</p>
<h2><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-1212 alignleft" src="https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Beyond_350x350_02-300x300.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="300" srcset="https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Beyond_350x350_02-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Beyond_350x350_02-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Beyond_350x350_02.jpg 350w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></h2>
<h2>Now, let’s be clear: breaking 100 is still on my “to-do” list.</h2>
<p>I’ve come close, but golf has a way of humbling you just when you think you’re getting the hang of it. One hole you’re Arnold Palmer, the next you’re just searching for your ball in the woods, wondering how life got you there. Still, I’ve discovered that it’s not just about the scorecard—it’s about enjoying the walk, the sunshine, and the occasional miracle shot that keeps you coming back.</p>
<h2>For me, golf has become a new way to stay active, laugh at myself, and enjoy time outside.</h2>
<h2><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-1213 alignleft" src="https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Beyond_350x350_03-300x300.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="300" srcset="https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Beyond_350x350_03-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Beyond_350x350_03-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Beyond_350x350_03.jpg 350w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></h2>
<p>And if any of my clients are golfers too—whether you’re seasoned or just starting out—I’m always game to get out there for a round. Bonus points if you’re willing to share free lessons, free tips, or even just a free <a href="https://www.glenmuir.com/news/what-is-a-mulligan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mulligan</a>.</p>

I&#8217;m a proud Philadelphian, <a href="https://www.boenninginc.com/our_people/martin-damico/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">financial advisor</a>, and sports enthusiast, among other things.</p>
<p>I was born in Flourtown, PA, and currently reside in the <a href="https://mtairycdc.org/explore-mt-airy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><u>Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia</u></a> with my wonderful wife, Chrisnetta, and our black pug, Hamilton. My roots run deep in this city—I attended <a href="https://www.lschs.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><u>La Salle College High School</u></a>, received my MBA from St. Joseph&#8217;s University, and have been a lifelong fan of all things Philly (what a time it is to be a sports fan!).</p>
<h2>By day, I help individuals and families navigate their financial futures.</h2>
<p>The world of finance is often perceived as rigid, technical, and, let&#8217;s be honest, sometimes a little boring. But financial advisors aren&#8217;t just robots in suits—we&#8217;re real people with passions, interests, and stories to share. That&#8217;s why I&#8217;m launching this blog series: to introduce more of my personal side and provide insights into my life beyond finance.</p>
<h2><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-1001 alignleft" src="https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/BTN_350x350_03-300x300.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="300" srcset="https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/BTN_350x350_03-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/BTN_350x350_03-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.boenninginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/BTN_350x350_03.jpg 350w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" />Through this blog, I&#8217;ll be sharing thoughts on everything from my love for boxing and food to personal experiences that have shaped who I am.</h2>
<p>My goal is to create a space where you, as a reader, can connect with me on a level beyond spreadsheets and investment strategies.</p>
<p>I look forward to sharing my journey with you and, hopefully, hearing about yours along the way. Stay tuned for more!</p>
